About

Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn, Illinois, helps create personalized tribute memorials in a century-old Chicago tradition.

Let's start with a story

Chapel at Blake-Lamb Funeral HomeInspire us with your stories from life: a favorite pastime, a trademark style or a lifelong dedication to community service. Through your stories, we identify the traits that create a personality and highlight them in a personalized memorial service.

Imagine a baseball-themed service for the world’s biggest fan, where guests wear their favorite jerseys and take home an imprinted keepsake baseball. Envision one last cruise-in for a hot rodder, with designated parking for show cars and a high-horsepower escort for the funeral coach. Whatever your wish, our detail-oriented funeral directors excel in creatively fulfilling almost any final wish.

Of course, traditional religious ceremonies remain a classic choice, and burial with military honors marks a particular area of expertise. To serve the growing number of families choosing cremation, we offer options ranging from basic cremations to full memorial services incorporating a viewing before cremation and interment of cremated remains. Our interfaith chapel welcomes celebrants of all faith traditions with Chicago hospitality.

History

Lobby at Blake-Lamb Funeral HomeBlake-Lamb Funeral Home became part of the Oak Lawn community at its founding in 1961 by M.J. Lamb and his 2 sons, Matt, Jr. and Richard.

The history of Blake-Lamb begins in 1880 at Canalport and Jefferson, with brothers Michael and Thomas Blake. In 1928 Matthew J. Lamb Jr. and his wife, Margaret, assumed operations from the heirs of Tom Blake after the death of Michael and his son, Thomas Blake. Matt worked in the livery business with his father, servicing the Blake Funeral Home as well as many other funeral homes in Chicago at that time.

In 1960 they broke ground at 4727 West 103rd Street in Oak Lawn to create a third location. With the opening of this chapel in 1961 came the award from the Preferred Funeral Directors International of the Nation’s Most Outstanding Funeral Home of the Year.

Ongoing excellence

We are honored to have received the Pursuit of Excellence Award from National Funeral Directors Association, the Joseph of Armithea Guild Award from the St. Vincent DePaul Society and several awards and accommodations from police and fire departments in appreciation for donation of services for officers lost in the line of duty.
